About Us

The Montana Cooperative Development Center (MCDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to promote and develop cooperatives to meet the economic and community needs of rural Montana.

As an educational and public resource for co-op development, MCDC offers technical assistance in project planning, group facilitation, market research, feasibility studies, incorporation guidance, fund development, operational strategies, and board and staff training.

The Center supports a statewide network of economic development specialists equipped to introduce the co-op model as a viable, alternative business structure across multiple industry sectors.  More than 150 Montana cooperatives engage in electricity and communications services; farm inputs and agricultural products; grain processing and fuel refining; personal financial services; retail operations; artisan and farmers markets; senior housing; and health and wellness services.
